Chiron may acquire vaccine maker New York Times The Chiron Corporation, one of the largest American biotechnology companies, has agreed to buy PowderJect Pharmaceuticals, a British vaccine maker, for more than $870 million, a person close to the transaction said yesterday. Chiron has three main businesses — vaccines, drugs like beta interferon for treatment of multiple sclerosis, and tests to screen donated blood for the viruses that cause AIDS and hepatitis C.
